Century Memorial

Willard Parker Butler’s social and legal qualities came to him by right of inheritance. His paternal grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Butler, was Attorney-General in the cabinets of Jackson and Van Buren; his maternal grandfather [Willard Parker] was an old and eminent fellow-Centurion. Willard Parker Butler, in addition to his legal acumen, was an assiduous collector in such varied fields as pottery, books, etchings and postage stamps. He was a generous host, an inspiring conversationalist, with ready reminiscence of travel, notable acquaintance and curious law experience, which invariably left the flavor of his talk to linger in the minds of his fortunate associates.
