Century Memorial
Both in mind and manner, Austen George Fox had a personality quite his own. A loyal and devoted son of Harvard, he clung closely to his early academic associations and relationships to the very end of his life. He had a powerful and richly-furnished mind, was widely-read and had great command of language. He went through life with the most amazing nonchalance. He quickly rose to a position at the bar where he commanded high fees; then comfortably formed the habit of doing only what he wanted to do and when he wanted to do it. From one point of view, his life was a lazy one. From another viewpoint, it was a life of very carefully selected occupations and opportunities. He was a brilliant and often amusing conversationalist, with a tendency to sarcasm, and took part in all sorts of interesting forms of public service.
