Century Memorial
Henry C. Dorr at the time of his death had been a member of this Association for fifty years. Born in Providence, of a distinguished Rhode Island family, a graduate of Brown University and of Harvard Law School—he was the typical scholar even to his personal appearance. Intensely shy, modest and retiring, he was a perfect encyclopædia of learning. When nearly seventy years old he took up the study of Hebrew, that he might be able to read the Psalms of David in the original. His lectures before the Rhode Island Historical Society were greatly valued, and are preserved in the archives of that body. His familiar figure will be greatly missed in these halls, where for half a century he had been a constant visitor.
