John Henry Boynton was of like character. He was a New York merchant for over forty years, one of the original members of the Produce Exchange, and its first secretary and manager. He was secretary of the Seamen’s Bank for Savings, and at one time president of the Maritime Exchange.
He took great interest in church work, and devoted a large part of his time to the New York Protestant Episcopal City Mission Society, of which he was treasurer. He was of a most retiring nature; but those who knew him well could not fail to be impressed with his strong, sterling qualities.
