Century Memorial
Cornelius Bishop Smith, Rector Emeritus of St. James’ Church on Madison Avenue; by his blameless life and gentle spirit endeared to all who knew him. When he became Rector, in 1867, St. James was a small country church; when he resigned, in 1895, it had become under his pastorate a large and efficient city church, with mission work.
