Century Memorial
George H. Olney was elected to the Century in 1915. He died in 1950.
He graduated from Brown in 1895, and from the Harvard Law School in 1898. He practiced law in New York, and for a time he was the partner of Arthur Train. He was counsel for the Brooklyn Edison Company, and this was long his chief interest.
He was a well-educated man, with a first-class mind. His demeanor was grave and courteous. He was his own frame of reference and he did not make friends easily; and this, perhaps, accounts for his achievements appearing incommensurate with his high abilities. For ten years before his death he was completely incapacitated by illness, which he endured with the utmost fortitude.
