Century Memorial

Francis Wisner Murray had the happy faculty of always wearing a good-humored smile and always gazing attentively at whoever talked with him; his interlocutor was instinctively convinced of the doctor’s interest in him. Murray was a College of Physicians and Surgeons man; he was broken into practical work as interne in the New York Hospital. He became recognized very soon after leaving the hospital as a surgeon of ability, and gained unusually early appointment to the Surgical Staff. In his professional life, Murray was known not only for his surgical skill but also for his forceful character and great interest in his patients. His fellow-practitioners described him as a fine representative of the active surgeon whose life is spent in the hospital wards, who gives advice that reassures his patients and who operates with a skill that instantly meets physical emergency.
