Robert Shaw Minturn

Robert Shaw Minturn was another man of business who gave the best of himself to philanthropic work. Managing a large estate, he was early enlisted in the field of New York charities, where he did the service of a good citizen. He was the third of his name to occupy the position of Treasurer in the Association for Improving the Condition of the Poor; in which organization a Robert Minturn has acted in that capacity, with one brief interval, from 1843 to the present year. Mr. Minturn, deeply interested in the work of his Association, was always progressive in thought, sincerely endeavoring to keep its charitable policy abreast or ahead of the times. A well-read man of cultivated tastes and winning manner, he carried his unusual charm of personality into his work, and left a cherished memory among his associates.
