Samuel Macauley Jackson, a familiar figure within these rooms. Graduating from the Union Theological Seminary in 1873, ordained for the Presbyterian ministry in 1876, he was soon working in charities and Christian missions. But Church History gradually became his vocation. He was the editor of the Schaff-Herzog Encyclopædia of Religious Knowledge, and the author of an excellent Life of Zwingli and other works.
