Henry B. Hammond was for many years a well-known lawyer in this city, in partnership at various times with Judge Emott, Albert Stickney and General Burnett. In later years he was especially prominent in the organization and management of railroads. His connection with the Union Pacific Railroad as secretary and attorney, the New York Air Line, Milwaukee Co., Lake Shore and Western, Long Island Railroad and others, gave him great prominence in business circles, and caused him to be recognized as an authority in all matters relating to transportation lines. Failing health caused him to retire from business some years since, but he continued to prize his connection with The Century to the last.
