Henry Lawrence Burnett, lawyer, entered the Civil War as Captain of the Second Ohio Cavalry. He was brevetted colonel and then brigadier-general of volunteers for meritorious services, and was one of those who were engaged in the prosecution of the assassins of President Lincoln. After the war, he returned to the practice of the law in Cincinnati and later in New York, where in 1898 he was appointed United States District Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
