Century Memorial
The surgical activities of Charles North Dowd in three or four New York hospitals, and with a long list of private patients, stretched over thirty years; his Century membership covered twenty-nine. He was a hard-working practitioner with few avocations and no hobbies. Before his surgical career began in the city of his choice, he studied in England under Huxley and in Germany under Bunsen; at the end of it he served as major in the Army Medical corps throughout the European war.
