Century Memorial
It was not very long ago, before failing health had cut him off from his favorite avocations, at the Club-house dining table that Charles Loomis Dana was one of the most familiar figures. Dr. Dana’s career of half a century as practicing neurologist was marked by great distinction. He had been president of the Academy of Medicine, was for many years chairman of that institution’s public health committee and had received, long ago, honorary degrees not only from Columbia and from his Alma Mater Dartmouth, but from the University of Edinburgh. At the Century’s dinner-table or in the reading-room, Dana’s conversation, although commonly serious and deliberate, had an occasional flash of subtle humor, along with which the thoughtful face with the Vandyke beard would suddenly light up. His is one of the personalities which, as was equally true of his brother and fellow-Centurion John Cotton Dana, the Century will remember.
