George A. Crocker, born in New England in 1831 and a graduate of Brown University, was for nearly a half-century head of the firm of Crocker Bros., prominent in the iron and metal trade. His standing in that trade and in the business world at large was very high. At the time of his death he was a director of the Bank of America, a vestryman of St. Bartholomew’s, and a trustee of St. Luke’s Hospital.
