The paintings of Benjamin West Clinedinst cover a variety of subjects, ranging from portraits of distinguished men to battle scenes, to which his imagination must have been directed through his attendance, in a period not long after the Civil War, at the Virginia Military Institute. In the field of portraiture, some of our best-known literary and political celebrities are on his canvases.
