Century Memorial
A. Ernest Vanderpoel was a lawyer, never engaged in active practice but belonging to a family of the best legal traditions. He was a son of the late Aaron Vanderpoel, who forty-five years ago was a judge of the Superior Court of the City of New York. He was a graduate of Columbia College, and was afterwards a trustee of that institution. Possessed of an ample competence he passed his life in more congenial pursuits than the strifes and struggles of the Bar, taking an interest, but not engaging in the exciting questions of the day, and living a life of scholarly leisure, for which his disposition and tastes eminently qualified him.
