Edgar S. Auchincloss was a member of the old mercantile firm of Auchincloss Brothers, was the Vice-President of the Manhattan Company, and a director of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Company. He was a broad natured, generous hearted, and most lovable man, public spirited and interested in charitable work. Every one who knew him was attracted to him by his personal qualities, and respected him as an upright merchant, a good citizen, and as a true friend. He stood as a fine example of high character and integrity in the business life of this city.
