Century Memorial
John S. Thacher was one of those kindly, gentle and unselfish practitioners of medicine who win the affection as well as the trust of patients and friends. He combined a high degree of professional skill with a modesty which at times approached actual shyness; yet those who knew him best will not forget his quiet wit and keen sense of humor. A well-read man and fond of beautiful things, he was not often a ready talker, but what he said was always worth listening to.
