Winthrop L. Rogers, during his residence in New York in the musical publishing house of the Schirmers, was a familiar visitor at the Century, where his interest in the talk of the day, notably on his own special vocation, made him a pleasing comrade. Rogers was himself not only an amateur musical performer in the string quartette, but a composer of songs; an achievement which served, in his generous conception of the art, to interest him all the more in the similar work of other men.
