Century Memorial
Douglas Merritt was a frequent visitor at the Century’s lunch-table. A gentleman of the old school, he had long ago retired from professional occupations to lead a country life at Rhinebeck, where he achieved the somewhat unusual distinction of managing a large farm at a profit. He was a man of varied tastes and interests. His farm stock were of the best; in diocesan affairs he was always active, and his modest but judicious collections qualified him as an amateur of arts and letters.
