Edward Clark Marsh was yet another of those useful and (notwithstanding the popular notion to the contrary) sympathetic intermediaries between author and publisher. Successively associated in that capacity with the Macmillans and the Harpers, he pursued the difficult task for sixteen years with marked success. He was himself a writer of short stories and of reviews of books, music and plays.
