Another prominent surgeon was Lemuel Bolton Bangs, professor at the New York Post-graduate Medical School and at Bellevue; consulting surgeon at St. Luke’s, Bellevue, St. Vincent’s, and other hospitals. His text-book on surgery was widely used, his surgical articles in medical magazines were highly regarded, and his character was above reproach.
