Century Memorial
Frederick Erastus Hyde could look back at a full life. A man who was born before our Mexican War, who served in the Civil War and as mining prospector fought the Indians in what was then described as “the Great American Desert,” could certainly claim to have participated in his country’s history. But Dr. Hyde, after passing his ninetieth year, had much more to look back upon than contacts with early American history. Quite aside from his medical affiliations, he was a persistent traveler in all parts of the world, a member of half a dozen New York clubs; he had shared in the most varied activities of his time.
