The quiet and self-contained personality of Charles Holt contrasted oddly with the emphatic and highly communicative mannerism of his brother Henry, from whom he was not often separated in their visits to the Club. Perhaps the two natures supplemented one another; it was not an ordinary experience to meet two brothers whose association, both personal and professional, had continued until both had lived ten years beyond the Psalmist’s limit.
