Century Memorial
The Metropolitan and Corcoran galleries have paintings of Charles Webster Hawthorne on their walls, and so have most of the American art museums. Hawthorne was one of the native artists who applied his brush successfully to American “genre painting”; he made the Cape Cod fisher-folk as living a reality in art as Miss Pratt and Mr. Lincoln have made them in story. His own studio was in his later years one of the landmarks of the Cape.
