Century Memorial

William Cashman Ferguson was a chemist of great ability, also a botanist who made valuable contributions to our knowledge of the wild flowers on Long Island. He graduated from the School of Mines, where he had studied under Chandler and Egleston. His improvements in copper analysis and production are recognized as permanent acquisitions. Curiously enough, his one affliction, that of great deafness, affected his career advantageously by enabling him to concentrate all his energies on his scientific work, while it did not detract from his pleasing and sympathetic personality.
