Clarence Degrand Ashley had a considerable law practice when, in 1891, he entered upon his true vocation as a teacher of law. He was the principal organizer of the Metropolis Law School, and when that united with the New York University Law School, he became a professor and subsequently its dean, a position filled by him for the last twenty years. In pursuance of his vocation, he compiled a book of Cases on Contract, and made a treatise on the same subject.
