Century Memorial
The death of Robert Arthur, that good painter of the Maine coast, will sadden those who loved this modest, and appreciative, and friendly man. He was born in Philadelphia sixty-four years ago, and studied his art in Antwerp and Paris. In course of time he naturally settled, for his winters, in New York, and passed the summers in his Studio at Ogunquit, Maine. He served The Century on the Committee of Admissions. I do not know whether we shall best remember him for his charming pictures of the coast and sea, or for his unfailing gentle friendliness.
