Century Memorial

The list of Centurions who served their term as law clerks in the old firm of Evarts, Choate & Beaman, Centurions all, is a long one. Philip Sidney Dean began his career in those immortal offices and graduated from them to take his place among the substantial counselors of the city. He made his way successfully through life, with a New York home on Washington Square West and a summer home near Bar Harbor, Me. Antiquities interested him and so did books, especially those pertaining to the solider stuff of the mind. He served as trustee and treasurer of St. Stephen’s College at Annandale on Hudson (later Bard College) and was also senior warden of St. Mark’s in the Bouwerie. His fellow members recall with affection his stocky figure, his sound bridge game and his pleasant manner. A shy and thoughtful Centurion, ever sure of a hearty welcome in the club house.
