Howard Gardiner Cushing was a Bostonian, a graduate of Harvard, and, one may say, of the Académie Julien, where so many of our artists have studied. He had not been long a resident of New York, and was a recent member of our Association. But he was already an associate of the Academy of Fine Arts, and his strong work as a portrait painter was well known and admired.
