Century Memorial

A. Beekman Cox, a descendant and for many years the head of the notable family of that name, was a resident of Cherry Valley in the lovely rural region of Otsego. Born in this city sixty-two years ago, he was a graduate of Yale and of the Rennsselaer [sic: “Rensselaer” intended] Polytechnic Institute, and was for some years active in the bridge-building branch of his profession. He retired quite early, on the death of his father, to assume the care of the family estate and maintain the position his ancestors had held for nearly a century. He was warmly, but disinterestedly, engaged in political affairs as an old-time Democrat, was for many years chief warden of Grace Church in Cherry Valley, and was deeply interested in the religious and benevolent work of the diocese, of which he was a Trustee.
