Century Memorial
John H. Cheever had been a member of The Century for nearly forty years. He was a business man of notable foresight and energy, and was intimately connected with the development and organization of the rubber interest, being President of the New York Belting and Packing Company and the Mechanical Rubber Company, and director in others. He was prominent in the establishment of Far Rockaway as a place of summer residence, and lived for many years at Wave Crest, where, at different times, he gathered about him a considerable colony, largely made up of fellow-Centurions.
