For many years George Forrest Butterworth had been a leading authority, if not the foremost counsel at the New York bar, in matters of real estate law. In addition to winning distinction as almost impeccable in the examination of titles to real estate, he was a high expert on the law of wills and estates and a constant adviser of persons of large property interests respecting their testamentary disposition. Outside of his law practice, Butterworth’s tastes were scholarly. He was a systematic reader of substantial literature, and he was also a man of personal charm and warm friendships, with a humor which found expression in quaint and unexpected comment.
