Century Memorial

Alexander H. Wyant was an artist of acknowledged merit, whose work has always placed him in the highest rank. He studied in Düsseldorf. Although residing in America, he frequently went abroad for subjects; but he will be remembered as a painter of American scenery, which he loved, and which he portrayed with a singularly subtle and poetic brush. He was an Academician of the National Academy of Design, a member of the Society of American Artists, and was one of the founders of the American Water Color Society. His paintings were distinguished for delicacy and refinement in color, breadth of handling, and were pervaded with a truth to nature, which brought him the highest honor and praise from his brother artists and from connoisseurs.
