Bronson Winthrop. [Born] 1863. Lawyer. Descendant of John Winthrop, who was governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629; graduate of Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, with a brilliant record in each; called by his partner, Elihu Root, “the finest legal mind of his generation”; at the end of his career, senior partner of Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam and Roberts, Centurions all; long active in the charities of the city; gentleman of an older school with a courtesy that came from the heart.
