Century Memorial

Robert F. Wilkinson of Poughkeepsie was a graduate of Williams College, entered the Union Army in 1862, served with distinction in the campaigns of the Red River, Georgia, and the Virginias, and was promoted Colonel for gallantry at the battles of Winchester and Cedar Creek, in the latter of which he was severely wounded. He returned after the war to Poughkeepsie, where he passed the rest of his life in the practice of the law, in which he enjoyed a well-earned reputation. He was a close student and a sound thinker, and was peculiarly successful in the settlement of disputes. He had a refined and exacting taste in letters and art, a retentive and richly stored memory, and an unusual love of and gift for social and friendly intercourse.
