George Gill Wheelock died at the age of sixty-eight in the midst of most important activities as a public servant. He was born in Boston, was a graduate of Harvard and of the medical school which is now that of Columbia University. With patriotic ardor he entered the service of the country and for conspicuous ability was made director of a great government hospital. Thereafter he served a term as intern of the New York Hospital, completed his medical training by foreign study, and returned home to become a successful teacher and practitioner of his art. His gifts endeared him to his fellows, and as a Trustee first of the college from which he graduated in medicine, later of Columbia University, as a manager of the Sloane Maternity Hospital and the Vanderbilt Clinic, he rendered services of the first importance to his profession. As a member of this Association for twenty-nine years he is recalled with warm affection by the many who knew and honored him. The grace and dignity of his manner, his sympathy with the ideals in letters and art which have always moulded this company, his frequent presence in its social gatherings, all combined to make his membership a notable one.
