Walter Watson was well known and highly respected in financial circles as the manager of the Bank of Montreal in this city for twenty-six years, having previously been connected with the Bank of British North America in Canada and here, and also a member of the firm of Morton, Bliss & Co. He was born and educated in Edinburgh, and displayed in a marked degree those shining qualities of his race—a rare probity, skill in affairs, steadfastness, courage, fidelity and humor. He was for several years president of the St. Andrew’s Society in this city, and an intimate friend of many distinguished men, among them Lord Strathcona and Lord Mount-Stephen, whom he frequently entertained during their visits here. He was a man of sincerity and rectitude; his standards of life and conduct were high, and as he lived up to them he won universal respect.
