Son of Edmund Clarence Stedman
Century Memorial
Arthur Griffin Stedman was forty-nine at death and had been a Centurion for nineteen years. A graduate of Yale and the son of a foremost man of letters, he early became a trusted collaborator with his famous sire, [Edmund Clarence Stedman,] whom he survived but a few short months. He was an editor, reviewer, and magazine writer, with a gift for poetry which he exercised but little, though the short threnody signed by himself and his niece, which was published a few days after the loss of his father, expresses a pathos and a depth of sorrow almost heartrending. His life was spent among books and in literary association; his spirit was storm-tossed often, but with kindred souls his communion was gentle, affectionate, and sympathetic.
