We are always interested in what the youthful heroes of the Civil War did with the long lives that awaited some of them. Our fellow member, Charles Ezra Sprague, who died as president of the Union Dime Savings Bank, was severely wounded at Gettysburg, and serving through the war, finished as brevet colonel of New York Volunteers. A college man, with a decided taste for figures and for business, he entered the Union Dime Savings Bank in 1870, and became its president in 1892. He was the author of many improvements in bank accounting, and of books upon the same topic.
