Century Memorial
Gilbert M. Speir was one of the early members of The Century, having been elected in 1849. For many years he was one of its officers, and its interests and reputation were dear to his heart. He was a constant attendant at all its gatherings, and there was never a more loyal member of it than he.
He was a prominent and successful member of the New York Bar for nearly forty years before he was elected Judge of the Superior Court of this city in 1873; and, when called to the Bench, he fulfilled with marked integrity and industry the duties of his high office.
