To Mr. Birdseye Blakeman the same description would apply. He was a prominent publisher of school books, and was president of the American Book Company. He had accumulated an ample fortune, and was happy in the esteem of a large circle of acquaintances and friends. On his fine estate at Stockbridge he dispensed a liberal hospitality, and gave during the past year a free public library to his native town. He was active and generous in the work of benevolence; and has left the memory of a useful and upright citizen to his children.
