Archivist’s Notes

Brother of Edward C. Sampson

Century Memorial

Except for his residence in Washington during most of the two past years and for the journeys on which he used impulsively to set out to the Pacific Coast or the Far East, Alden Sampson was one of the most constant visitors at the Century and a most regular figure at its luncheon-table. His avocations ranged from the study in natural history, which lent interest to his travels, to research in older English literature, part of the fruits of which were gathered and published in his book on Milton. In the Club’s interest his work was energetic; nobody will have forgotten the prodigious personal labor which he devoted, in the year after the war, to compiling for publication the direct and indirect service record of the Century Club membership.
