Touro Robertson was a pioneer in the art of bank note printing in this country, and invented the first steam plate printing press ever used. He inherited soldierly qualities from his father, who was an Aid[e] on General Jackson’s staff at the battle of New Orleans, and he himself served in the Twelfth New York Volunteers during the War.
He was an excellent business man, and was connected with the Continental Bank Note Company until its consolidation with the American Bank Note Company, and was vice-president of the latter at the time of his death. He was held in high esteem by every one who knew him, and by none more so than his intimates in The Century.
