During a full generation painter, illustrator and art instructor, Frederick Richardson lived out a full and congenial career. His fifteen-year service on the art staff of the Chicago Daily News was not determined, as in those older days it often was, by “smart drawing” and artistic persiflage; Richardson had acquired his knowledge of the craft at the Academie Julian in Paris, had been pupil of some of the best French masters. Perhaps he will be chiefly remembered for his “Book of Drawings,” comprising his best illustrations for the monthly magazines and children’s books.
