Century Memorial

Another of the “old New Yorkers” on The Century’s list of members dying within the year was Isaac S. Platt, who was born in this city in 1834. He was almost a pioneer in the now world-known industry of the manufacture of agricultural machinery, and at the time of his death was President of the corporation of Adriance, Platt & Co., whose office he had visited every working day for half a century. Despite his rare assiduity in business, he found time for active work in a number of charitable and philanthropic institutions. He was also a member of the Mendelssohn Glee Club, and of the American Museum of Natural History.
