Charles J. Nourse Jr.

Charles Joseph Nourse had been one of our members for sixteen years when he died at fifty-eight [sic: fifty-seven]. He was educated at St. Paul’s and Columbia. With a fine training in letters and art he combined a keen business sense and was on every side an important member of society, performing all his manifold duties with efficiency and grace. His eminence in his chosen field of financial activity was won by ability and faithfulness to the trust imposed upon him. He had here a choice circle of friends, and his qualities of heart and mind made him a favorite companion with many. Still in the prime of life when taken away, he walked among men with keen enjoyment, and with full appreciation for what is noblest and best in the creative and critical products of the mind. It is of such men that the sound texture of society is woven.
