Lemuel Carrington Mygatt was graduated from Williams in the Class of 1870. For twenty-three years before his death he was the Head Master of the Collegiate School, one of the oldest schools in the United States, having been founded in 1633. It greatly prospered under his administration. He was actively engaged in politics as a volunteer, entering into various campaigns against Tammany Hall.
Mr. Mygatt for years fought the bravest of fights against death. Smitten with a fatal disease which gave him great pain, he showed no sign and uttered no complaint to his friends. Cheerful, interested in all good things, his life was a triumphant victory over suffering and the constant prospect of death.
