Fordham Morris

Fordham Morris was of our oldest and most excellent stock, sixty-seven years of age [sic: sixty-six], and for eleven years a member of The Century. He was graduated from Trinity College and Columbia. But he was a soldier of the Civil War rather than a student of the University, and it was only at the close of that struggle that he studied law; becoming a member of the bar, he was for many years in active practice.

His splendid character won the confidence of the circles in which he lived; his qualities of heart endeared him to those who enjoyed his friendship. For public service his readiness and capacity were shown in important trusts, notably in the service of the City College. For many years past he was constantly in these rooms, reading and conversing, one of the general group which is ever ready to furnish stimulating talk and a hearty welcome in the Graham library, a member of The Century’s senate chamber. The loss of such as he is deeply felt by those to whom this is a second home.
