Century Memorial

George William McLanahan was of Pennsylvania stock, but a New Yorker by birth, and by training. He became a member here twenty-six years ago, being sixty-three [sic: sixty-four] when he died. His life was devoted to work in the cause of the church and of his fellow men. He was a liberal and conscientious supporter of both religious and philanthropic enterprises whose work he approved. The turn of his mind was historical and artistic, so that by nature, temperament, and study, he was of our manner. The writing which he did was occasional, but it had the true journalistic instinct. In the national capital, where he lived during the later years of his life, he was also a great social favorite, being a member of the four important clubs of that city.
